Tigers Track And Field Sets Three Records Friday
Feb 10, 2017 | Men's Track and Field, Women's Track and Field
DeMoss, Ladd, men's medley relay all post record-setting times.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – University of Memphis' Davon DeMoss and Chelsea Ladd and the distance medley relay all set school records in Friday action at the 2017 Music City Challenge. Vanderbilt University is hosting the two-day meet.
DeMoss set the program mark in the men's 200m, and Ladd did so in the women's 5000m. The Tigers men's distance medley relay broke a school record that had stood since 1980. LaForrest Church, Matthew Viveiros, Matthew Kamph and Jason Kimmet were Memphis' distance medley relay Friday.
Friday's three school records came after the program set two other marks last week. Senior Martina Rodriguez Sala (women's mile) and freshman Simon Hosten (men's heptathlon) set school records in last weekend's meets.
The two-day Music City Challenge continues Saturday with 28 events. The action starts at 10 a.m. (CT) with the men's and women's 3000m runs. The field events begin at 10:30 a.m. (CT) with the women's pole vault.

Music City Challenge/Day One Highlights
- The Tigers distance medley relay of LaForrest Church, Matthew Viveiros, Matthew Kamph and Jason Kimmet set the school record in the event with a time of 9:54.27. The quartet broke the previous school mark set in 1980 by just over five seconds (9:59.30).
- Sophomore Davon DeMoss' school-record time of 21.35 in the men's 200m broke the previous mark of 21.51 by Larry Crawford in 2000. DeMoss' 21.35 is a 200m personal-best for an indoor or outdoor meet.
- Junior Chelsea Ladd shattered the women's 5000m school record with a time of 16:52.30. The previous school record was 17:10.49 by Emily Malinowski in 2007. Ladd's time also was a personal-best for an indoor or outdoor meet.
- Senior Chardae Greenlee nearly made it four school records Friday, but came up three inches shy of the triple jump mark (42-7). Greenlee's 42-4 (12.90m) leap tied her indoor personal-best in the event. Her previous 42-4 jump came at the 2015 Commodore Invitational.
- Senior Luke Vaughn was sixth in the men's weight throw with a 60-11.5 (18.58m) toss. The throw was the second-best of his career. His career-best weight throw was 61-11.75 (18.89m) at 2015 American Athletic Conference Indoor Championships (placed second).
- Junior Arnica Zitting's time of 17:10.12 in the women's 5000m shattered her previous best time – indoor or outdoor – by over 22 seconds (17:32.63). Her 17:10.12 also was better than the previous school record (17:10.49) before teammate Chelsea Ladd set the new standard Friday.
