Sophomore earns national honor after helping Memphis upset #24/25 Navy.
MEMPHIS -- Austin Hall added a national award to his bio on Tuesday as he was named the Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week. Hall helped Memphis upset No. 24/25 ranked Navy with 10 tackles, two interceptions, one pass breakup and a fumble recovery on Saturday. He was named the American Athletic Conference's Defensive Player of the Week, Monday.
Â
On the season, the sophomore from Collierville leads Memphis with 44 total tackles, including 4.5 tackles for loss. His three interceptions is tied for the team lead with freshman defensive back TJ Carter. Hall's three pass breakups are also tied for the team lead with defensive backs Jonathan Cook and Tito Windham.
Â
Hall is the second Tiger this year to earn a national weekly honor. Senior quarterback Riley Ferguson was named the Walter Camp Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 17 after a win over then-No. 25 UCLA.
Â
Hall and his team are in a short week of prep for another West Division clash in American Athletic Conference play. Memphis will play at Houston, Thursday, in a 7 p.m. clash that will be broadcast by ESPN.
Â
The non-Saturday game is one of three-in-a-row for the Tigers. Memphis will host Tulane next Friday, Oct. 27th, then plays at Tulsa on Friday, Nov. 3.
