Tigers Pull Away from Green Wave in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS - Behind 24 points from both Markel Crawford and Dedric Lawson, the Memphis Tigers out-scored Tulane 44-33 in the second half en-route to a 21-point, 80-59 American Athletic Conference win.
Crawford hit 8-of-11 shots from the field, and a career-high 5-of-6 from long range for his 24 points. Over his last three games, Crawford has made 26-of-36 of his shots from the field, and 6-of-9 from beyond the arc.
Lawson had a complete game with 24 points (9-of-16 field goals and 2-of-4 from distance, while pulling down 10 rebounds for his 13th double-double this year, and 30th of his career. He also added five blocked shots, three assists, and two steals.
K.J. Lawson scored 13 points while pulling down eight rebounds, as Memphis out-rebounded Tulane 43-to-32 in the contest. Jeremiah Martin pulled down a career-high seven rebounds, while Jimario Rivers tied a career-high with his eight rebounds.
Memphis hit 30-of-58 from the field in the game (51.7 percent), and hit 9-of-21 (42.9 percent) from beyond the arc. The Tigers held the Green Wave to 33.9 percent shooting in the game (21-of-62), and just 22.2 percent (4-of-18) on three-point shots, including a 0-7 effort from long range in the second half.
Tulane struck first with a basket 29 seconds into the contest, before Memphis answered with five straight points on a lay-in by Jeremiah Martin and a three-pointer by Crawford.
The Tigers, who led for almost 34 and a half minutes in the game, led by seven at 18-11 with 9:47 to play in the opening half before the hosts ran off 11 straight points to lead 22-18. The Green Wave lead grew to as many as five ta 25-20, capping a stretch where Tulane hit all four of its three-point tries.
Memphis answered with its own run 13-0, and closed the half on a 16-1 run, taking a 10-point, 36-26 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Green Wave fought and closed to within six early in the second half at 36-30; however, Memphis answered with a 9-2 run, and the margin never reached single digits again in the 21-point Tiger win.
The Tigers return to action on Wednesday, January 11 when the team travels to Tulsa, Oklahoma, to take on the Golden Hurricane of Tulsa in a 7 p.m. tip-off on ESPNews.
