MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Christmas season is over, but if Tigers fans are still searching for one more gift for themselves, then how about 2017 University of Memphis football season tickets?
Deposits for new 2017 season tickets for the Tigers' seven-game home schedule in the fall are on sale now, and deposits to purchase those tickets can be made online at gotigersgotix.com or by calling the Memphis Athletics Ticket Office at 901-678-2331. If making season tickets deposits online, follow the football links on the gotigersgotix.com page or click on link at top of this story. Current season ticket holders will receive their ticket renewal information at a later date.
For the second-straight year, the Tigers have seven home games scheduled for Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. It is the first time Memphis has had back-to-back campaigns with seven home games since 2007 and 2008.
The Memphis home schedule includes visits from East Carolina, Louisiana-Monroe, Navy, Southern Illinois, SMU, Tulane and UCLA.
Highlights of the 2017 Tigers home slate are:
The Tigers' road schedule includes five contests at American Athletic Conference West Division rivals Houston and Tulsa; conference East Division foes Connecticut and UCF; and first-time non-conference opponent Georgia State.
Connecticut and UCF both return to the Memphis slate in 2017. The Tigers played the Huskies in the first two seasons of American Athletic Conference action in 2013 and 2014. Memphis last met the Knights on the gridiron in the 2013 campaign.
The league office will announce game dates, times and television appearances at a later date.
The following are brief outlooks on the Tigers' seven foes that visit the Liberty Bowl in the fall:
Louisiana-Monroe
Posted a 4-8 overall record and a 3-5 Sun Belt Conference mark in 2016 … Matt Viator enters his second campaign as the Warhawks' head coach in 2017 after spending the previous 10 seasons (2006-15) at McNeese State … Louisiana-Monroe returns most of its key position players in 2017, including its top-two QB (Garrett Smith, Caleb Evans), top-three rushers (Ben Luckett, Thomas Koufie, Smith) and two of its top-three receivers (Marcus Green, Xavier Brown) from the 2016 squad. The Warhawks defense also welcomes back its top-two tacklers in David Griffith and Chase Day.
UCLA
Had a 4-8 overall record and 2-7 Pac-12 Conference mark in 2016 … Head coach Jim Mora enters his sixth season in Westwood in 2017 … Among Mora's staff is former Tigers head coach Rip Scherer, who coached in the Bluff City from 1995-2000 … Scherer is the Bruins senior associate head coach and works with the tight ends … Offensively, the Bruins return several key players, including QB Josh Rosen … Rosen missed the second half of the 2016 season with a shoulder sprain … UCLA also returns its top-two RB (Soso Jamabo, Nate Starks) and top-two receivers (Darren Andrews, Jordan Lasley). On defense, UCLA loses its leading tackler and its TFL and sacks leader, but returns its second (Kenny Young) and third (Jaleel Wadood) leading stoppers.
Southern Illinois
Posted a 4-7 overall record and a 2-7 Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) mark in 2016 … Won two of its final three games, including a victory over No. 24 Western Illinois … Six of the Salukis' seven setbacks were by single digits … Southern Illinois loses its starting QB, but returns Sam Straub, who played in five games and threw for over 1,000 yards and eight TD this past season … The Salukis' top-two rushers (Cameron Walter, Daquan Isom) and top TD receiver (Connor Iwema) return … Southern Illinois had four players named to the MVC All-Newcomer squad, and return specialist D.J. Davis was named to the All-MVC honorable mention … Davis returned a kickoff 98 yards for a TD in 2016.
East Carolina
Finished 2016 with a 3-9 overall record and a 1-7 American Athletic Conference mark … Pirates head coach Scottie Montgomery enters his second season in 2017 … The Pirates offense loses QB Philip Nelson and All-America wide receiver Zay Jones, but returns QB Gardner Minshew and WR Quay Johnson … Minshew played in seven games and threw for over 1,300 yards and eight TD, and Johnson had 58 catches for over 500 yards … LB Jordan Williams, the team's leading tackler, and Yiannis Bowden, squad's top TFL performer, return to lead the East Carolina defense.
SMU
Had a 5-7 overall record and a 3-5 American Athletic Conference mark in 2016 … The five victories were the program's most since 2012 (seven wins) … Head coach Chad Morris enters his third season at the helm in 2017 … The Mustangs return a lot of experience on offense with its starting QB (Ben Hicks), top RB (Braeden West) and All-American Athletic Conference WR (Courtland Sutton) … Hicks passed for nearly 3,000 yards and 19 TD, West rushed for over 1,000 yards and six TD and Sutton had 76 receptions for over 1,200 yards and 10 scores … SMU also returns experience on the defensive side with its top-two tacklers (Kyran Mitchell, Dustin Lawler) … Lawler led the Mustangs in TFL and sacks.
Tulane
Finished 2016 season with a 4-8 overall record and a 1-7 American Athletic Conference mark … Head coach Willie Fritz leads Tulane in his second season in 2017 … RB Dontrell Hilliard (759 yards, 9 TD) returns to lead the rushing attack, which was the core of the Green Wave's offensive attack in 2016 … Starting QB Glen Cuiellette and top WR Terren Encalade also return … Cuiellette threw for over 1,300 yards and 10 TD, and Encaladehad 36 catches for 500 yards and six scores … DB Jarrod Franklin is the Green Wave's top returning tackler.
Navy
Posted a 9-5 overall record and a 7-1 American Athletic Conference mark in 2016 … The Midshipmen won the American Athletic Conference West Division title and played in the league's championship game … Navy dropped a 48-45 decision to Louisiana Tech in the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl Dec. 23 … FB Chris High is the only returnee for head coach Ken Niumatalolo's offensive backfield in 2017 … High rushed for 500 yards and five TD … Darryl Bonner is the only one of the Mids' top-three receivers returning in 2017 … He had eight catches for 199 yards and two scores … What Navy lacks in experience on offense, the Mids make up for it on defense … Navy returns its top-four tacklers, including LB Micah Thomas with his team-high 98 stops … LB D.J. Palmore returns as the Mids' leader in TFL and sacks.

- Return trip to the Liberty Bowl for former head coach Rip Scherer, who was the Tigers' mentor from 1995-2000; Scherer is on the Bruins staff
- Louisiana-Monroe's first trip to Memphis since 2000 and the Warhawks' first visit as a member of the Sun Belt Conference; Louisiana-Monroe's last trip to the Liberty Bowl was as a FBS independent
- Five of the seven opposing head coaches make their first visits to the Liberty Bowl (East Carolina, Louisiana-Monroe, Southern Illinois, Tulane and UCLA)
- East Carolina rotates back on the Memphis schedule, and the Pirates make their first visit to the Liberty Bowl since 2011
- The meeting with the Pirates is the first as American Athletic Conference foes; the last time the two programs played was in 2012 as Conference USA members
- First-time meeting with Southern Illinois
