Tigers facing opponents from Columbia, Alabama and Tulane.
MEMPHIS – The University of Memphis men's tennis team will begin its 2016 fall slate at the Alabama Four-in-the-Fall event in Tuscaloosa, starting Friday. The tournament will give the coaches opportunities to experiment with different doubles and singles lineups in non-dual match play.
Friday, Memphis will play twice. At 1 p.m., the Tigers will face opponents from host Alabama in doubles play, followed by singles, then will face opposition from Columbia beginning at 6 p.m.
Saturday, the Tigers will start play at 8 a.m., playing singles against opponents from Columbia before breaking for the Alabama vs. Kent State football game.
On Sunday, the team will wrap up the event against opponents from conference foe Tulane, starting at 9 a.m.
Memphis returns six letterwinners from last year's NCAA tournament squad. But Memphis will be without junior Ryan Peniston at the weekend event, as Peniston has been accepted as an alternate to an ITA event in California next month, using one of his four fall competition events.
The Alabama event will be the first matches in blue and gray for redshirt freshmen Matthew Story and Turner Voges and for true freshman Jan Pallares Monreal.
