Team Honored for Seventh Straight Year
MEMPHIS – For the seventh straight season, the University of Memphis women's tennis team has been named an Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team it was announced Friday. Teams that posted a team GPA of 3.2 or higher earn the honor each year.
In addition to the team award, five members of the team were named ITA Scholar Athletes for having a GPA of 3.5 or higher during the 2015-16 season.
Freshman Janina Berres, sophomore Hanna Sohn, juniors Marta Morga and Anki Wind and senior Kathryn Hughes all earned ITA Scholar-Athlete mentions. It is the third straight honor for both Morga and Wind.
"Assistant Coach Ryan Haymond and I are very proud of the girls for their academic work," third year head coach Hayden Perez said. "This honor proves that they work hard in the classroom and on the court. Managing day-to-day responsibilities of being a college athlete and being academically strong isn't something to be taken lightly. I have the utmost respect for the girls and congratulate them for this achievement."
Memphis will return four players for the upcoming 2016-17 season. Wind, Sohn and Morga will be joined by Gabrielle Paul to lead three newcomers on the Lady Tiger roster.
