Women’s Tennis Closes Texas Trip With Loss at UT Arlington
Apr 03, 2016 | Women's Tennis
Tigers have one road trip left in regular season.
MEMPHIS – The University of Memphis women's tennis team closed a three-road-games-in-three-days swing with a 4-0 loss at #48 ranked UT Arlington (13-3), Sunday.
Memphis lost the doubles point with a 6-3 loss at two doubles, combined with a Tiger default at number three doubles with just five healthy players.
UTA then used wins at three and five singles to seal the win. Tiger sophomore Hanna Sohn had won her first set, 7-5, and trailed 3-2 in the second when her match was abandoned. Teammate Kathryn Hughes was also looking to split sets, coming back from a 6-4 loss in the first set to lead 5-4 in the second, but like Sohn, her match was abandoned with the team result decided and Memphis still needing to drive after the match. Freshman Janina Berres was also trying to split sets, losing the first 6-4, but leading 3-1 in the second when the win was decided.
Memphis has one road series left in its regular season. The Tigers will play at UAB, Friday, at 1 p.m., then will face Tulane in New Orleans on Sunday at 10 a.m.
