Women’s Golf Wraps Up Match Play at SDSU March Mayhem

Colwill wins her match to wrap up strong tournament.
MEMPHIS – The Memphis women's golf team wrapped up its first-ever tournament in match play with a 4-1 loss to UC Davis at the San Diego State March Mayhem event, Wednesday.
Freshman Sydney Colwill won her match 1 up, but UC Davis picked up the other four match wins to prevail in the 13th place bracket.
In the championship bracket, Southern Cal defeated Arizona, Memphis' first round opponent, 4-1, while Cal, who Memphis faced in the second round, edged Colorado, 3-2, in the consolation bracket.
The win for Colwill wrapped up a solid weekend for the freshman, who finished all of her other three rounds all square against opponents from No. 9 Arizona, No. 15 Cal and Delaware State before picking up the win Wednesday against UC Davis (currently No. 81 in the country).
Memphis, who was seeded 14th with its No. 93 ranking in the latest Golfstat rankings, finished 14th with the Wednesday loss to UC Davis (who was seeded 11th).
The Lady Tigers return home to the Mid-South for a one-week respite, before venturing to Oxford to participate in the Rebel Intercollegiate, Apr. 1-3rd. That event will be the final regular season tournament of the year for Memphis, who then participates in the American Athletic Conference tournament, Apr. 17-19th in Palm Coast, Florida.
