Hosts #45 Purdue Sunday
MEMPHIS – The University of Memphis women's tennis team (1-2) went down to Oxford to face number 25 Ole Miss (5-0), Saturday, short-handed. Junior Anki Wind, who has played number one singles and was part of Memphis' first-ever NCAA doubles entry last season, was out due to injury and one of the nation's top 25 teams was standing on the other side of the net from her Lady Tiger teammates.
Memphis still came out fighting in the doubles point. After a 6-1 Ole Miss win at No. 3, both of the other doubles matches were close until the number 47 ranked team of Mai El Kamash and Arianne Hartono got a break in hand and closed out a 6-3 win at No. 1 before Memphis could try to break back at number two, where the match went unfinished with Memphis just 5-4 down.
In singles, and with just three indoor courts available, the home-standing Rebels grabbed wins at the top three singles spots to decide the win and then swept the bottom three singles matches to complete the 7-0 sweep.
Memphis returns to the Bluff City, Sunday, for another non-conference match against a ranked opponent, this time, hosting number 45 ranked Purdue, in a 9 a.m. match at the University Club. The Lady Tigers' normal home at The Racquet Club of Memphis is hosting the ATP 250 Memphis Open this coming week and is unavailable for the team's match.
