Women’s Tennis Edged by #70 Kansas State

Tigers win doubles point, but fall 4-2 in New York City.
MEMPHIS – The University of Memphis women's tennis team (1-8) won the doubles point and got a win in singles from freshman Janina Berres, but could not upend number 70 ranked Kansas State, falling 4-2 in a neutral site match at Columbia, Saturday.
Memphis picked up wins at one and two doubles to take the early lead in the match, 1-0. The team of Hanna Sohn and Berres won 6-2, and the team of Kathryn Hughes and birthday girl Gabrielle Paul grabbed a 6-2 win at two to seal the win.
Sohn jumped out to an early lead at one singles, winning her first set 6-2, then fell 6-0, 6-2. Morga and Tara McElroy both battled, but dropped sets, 7-5.
Berres grabbed a straight set 6-3, 6-2 win at number four for the Tigers' other point in the match for her second straight singles win, pushing her mark to 4-5 in dual season singles play.
Memphis will close out the road swing with a Sunday noon (ET) match against host Columbia.
