Former Tiger Duo Drafted into NBA D-League

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Former University of Memphis men's basketball standouts Trahson Burrell and Ricky Tarrant Jr. have been drafted into the NBA Developmental League, in their annual draft which was held on Sunday.
Burrell was drafted with the 14th pick in the second round by the Long Island Nets (Brooklyn Nets affiliate), while Tarrant Jr. was taken with the 19th pick in the third round by the Maine Red Claws (Boston Celtics affiliate).
Last season Tarrant Jr. averaged 11.7 points per game, while leading the team with 110 assists and 46 steals. He also pulled down 91 rebounds, and made 146-of-184 free thows (79.3 percent). Tarrant Jr. came to the Tigers as a graduate transfer from Alabama with one year of eligibility remaining.
Burrell averaged 10.0 points per game last season, as he pulled down 197 rebounds, and his 87 assists were second-most on the team. He had five of his seven collegiate double-doubles during the season, including a 24-point, 11-rebound effort against Cincinnati on January 21.
The Memphis Tigers open the 2016-17 season with an exhibition on Monday, November 7 when the squad hosts Christian Brothers at 6:30 p.m., while the regular season kicks off on Monday, November 14 against UTRGV in a 7 p.m. tip-off.
