Oct 19, 2016 | Men's Tennis, Women's Tennis
Men's team playing at Tennessee and women's team at Middle Tennessee starting Thursday.
MEMPHIS – The University of Memphis men's and women's tennis teams will participate in their respective ITA Ohio Valley Regional tournaments, starting Thursday. The men's team will go to Knoxville to participate in the regional there at the University of Tennessee, while the women's team will stop in Murfreesboro at Middle Tennessee for their regional.
The men's squad is taking six student-athletes to the event. Andrew Watson, Ryan Peniston, Kai Lemke, Jan Pallares, Felix Rauch and Chris Patzanovsky will play singles and doubles at the event, which is being played on the outdoor courts at the Knoxville Racquet Club and the West Hill outdoor courts as the UT campus courts are under renovation. In case of rain, the matches will move indoors at the Goodfriend Tennis Center.
The brackets for the men's draw will be released later Thursday evening HERE.
The women's regional will be contested this year at Middle Tennessee. The Lady Tigers have four entries in this weekend's regional: Anki Wind, Hanna Sohn, Gabrielle Paul and Clara Kuehn. Unlike the men's regional, which is one singles draw, the women's regional has a main draw, a qualifying draw and a B draw. Kuehn and Paul will compete in the B draw at the event in singles, while Sohn starts her regional run in the qualifying singles draw. Wind and Sohn will team together for main draw doubles.
The complete draws will be announced Wednesday night after the teams all get in to Murfreesboro. The draws can be found HERE.
The singles and doubles champions from each ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championship presented by Oracle will qualify for the USTA ITA National Indoor Championships at Flushing, N.Y., Nov. 3-6.
