Track And Field Squads To Compete In A-State Invite This Weekend

Tigers resume schedule after a month break from competition.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – After over a month break from competition, the University of Memphis track and field squads resume their indoor schedules this Friday and Saturday, Jan. 22-23 when they travel to Jonesboro, Ark., to participate in the A-State Invitational.
The two-day meet begins Friday at 10 a.m. (CT) and continues through Saturday afternoon. Arkansas State's Convocation Center is the site for the meet. With the anticipated winter weather moving through the Mid-South area this weekend, stay tuned to GoTigersGo.com and @MemTigersTF-XC for updates.
Memphis is one of 13 schools competing in this weekend's A-State Invitational. Among the other participating schools are Central Arkansas, Georgia State, Jacksonville State, Little Rock and Louisiana-Lafayette, in addition to the host Arkansas State.
The Tigers return to action after opening their 2015-16 indoor campaigns at the Commodore Indoor Opener in Nashville, Tenn., Dec. 5. Overall, Memphis had 18 top-five performances (13 men, 5 women) at the opener.
Leading the way for Memphis were LaForrest Church and Carolina Carmichael. Both earned American Athletic Conference weekly honors for their performances at the Commodore Indoor Opener.
Church was named the league's Male Track Athlete of the Week Dec. 7 after placing first in two events. He won the 800m (1:50.53) and also was a member of the first-place 4x400m relay (3:16.31). Church's 800m time remains among the top-10 in the nation for the indoor season to date.
Carmichael earned the conference's Female Field Athlete of the Week Dec. 7 after winning the pole vault (13-7.25) at the Commodore Indoor Opener. Her mark is currently 10th-best in the nation for the indoor season.
Chardae Greenlee, a 2015 indoor triple jump All-American, posted a 41-7 mark for a second-place finish at the season-opening meet. Her mark is currently 11th-best in the country for the indoor season.
