Tiger Invitational Round 2 Tee Times
Playing off the 10th tee to begin the first round of Auburn's Tiger Invitational, Memphis' Eithel McGowen played the front nine after the turn at one-under par and was UM's co-leader following the first round of the tournament. McGowen along with teammate Lars Van Meijel are tied for 18th heading into Monday's play on the Grand National Lake Course on the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.
As a team, Memphis is tied with Mississippi State for 12th in the team standings. Memphis shot a +305 (+17) team score on Sunday.
Tournament host Auburn is the first-round leader in the team standings after shooting a 290 (+2). Auburn has a four-stroke lead over Ole Miss. Memphis is part of a logjam in which six strokes separates eighth through 14th place.
Individually, McGowen was three-over par over the back nine. He had a bogey on No. 10 to begin the round and played No. 15 two over par. But the sophomore's front nine was clean and included a birdie putt on the course's longest hole, the par 5, 557 yard No. 7.
Also on Sunday, van Meijel's first nine holes were up and down with three bogeys and two birdies before a bogey on No. 3, the only blemish on the front nine for the tournament's opening round.
The Tiger Invitational is the only 54-hole tournament played over three days Memphis will play this spring before seeing the same format when the team competes at the American Athletic Conference next month. Memphis will begin play off the No. 10 tee on Monday. The final round of the tournament is scheduled for Tuesday.
The Tigers will be paired with Jacksonville State and Mercer. Fans call follow play throughGolfstat.com's live scoring link.
