All seven GARC teams are ranked among nation's top-20.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. --Â The University of Memphis rifle squad returns to action this weekend when it travels to Oxford, Miss., to compete in the Great American Rifle (GARC) Championships. Ole Miss is the host school for this weekend's competition.
In addition to Memphis and Ole Miss, other programs competing at the GARC Championships are Army, Kentucky, Nebraska, N.C. State and West Virginia. All seven squads are ranked in the most-recent Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) top-20 poll.
Last season, the Tigers placed sixth at the GARC Championships with an aggregate score of 4634.
The Tigers are looking to build on their second-place finish at the NCAA Sectional/Qualifier Feb. 22. Sophomore Amy Fister shot a career best in air rifle (589) and placed second in the discipline. Senior Max Burkhardt (1171), Fister (1168) and freshman Makennon Doran (1166) were third, fourth and fifth, respectively, in aggregate score at the sectional.
"We had one of our best performances of the season at last week's NCAA sectional match,"Â said head coach Butch Woolbright. "Hopefully, we can carry that momentum over to this weekend."
