@MemphisWBKB Hosting UCF Wednesday Night
Feb 17, 2015 | Women's Basketball
It's a day later than anticipated, but the University of Memphis women's basketball team (12-12, 6-7) will host UCF (8-17, 4-10) Wednesday night at 7 p.m. in the Elma Roane Fieldhouse in an American Athletic Conference match-up.
Series History -- Tigers vs UCF
This is the 22nd meeting between Memphis and UCF. The Tigers hold a slight 11-10 edge in the series thanks to a three-game winning streak.
Rowser Named to American Weekly Honor Roll
Redshirt sophomore guard Mooriah Rowser was named to the American Athletic Conference weekly honor roll after tying a career-high with 24 points and adding a career-best five steals in the 64-58 win at Houston last week.
The honor is the second of the season for Rowser, who put her second 20-plus point outing of the season on the books with the 24-points in the win at Houston. The 24 points ties Rowser's career high and she set new career highs in steals (5), three-point field goals made (3) and minutes played (40).
Powell Provides Valuable Contribution off the Bench
Junior post Courtney Powell provided some much-needed help off the bench in the Tigers' win at Houston. With three post players on the bench with a pair of fouls in the first half, Powell came in and helped secure five rebounds and scored seven points to help Memphis fend off the home-standing Cougars, 64-58.
Powell's seven points were all the points the Tigers got from their bench in the win and her 24 minutes played was a career best. Powell also tied career bests with three free throws made and six free throw attempts.
Three in Double Digits
It's been a running theme for Memphis all year, but finding second and third double-digit scorers to join Ariel Hearn in the scoring column has been a challenge. Junior post Asianna Fuqua-Bey stepped up to that in the win at Houston, joining Rowser (24) and Hearn (17) in double-digit scoring, finishing with 10 points and eight rebounds.
The junior battled foul trouble throughout the game, eventually fouling out in 28 minutes of play, but added three steals. She needs just three more steals for 100 in her Memphis career.
Hearn 16th All-Time at Memphis
With her 13 points against UConn on Saturday, junior guard Ariel Hearn moved to 16th on the Memphis career scoring chart and comes in to Wednesday's game against UCF with 1,387 points. That pushed the Memphis native past another Bluff City native, Paris Leonard (2005-09).
Hearn needs 40 more points to tie Shannon Hamp's (1999-2003) career scoring mark of 1,427 points, which is currently 15th in Memphis history.
If Hearn can move to the Tiger top 15 in scoring (53 points away), she will become just the third player in the Tigers' top 15 to play under Melissa McFerrin at Memphis. Nicole Dickson (10th with 1,656 points) and Brittany Carter (14th with 1,437 points) are the two Tigers currently in the top 15 who have played for McFerrin in her first seven years at Memphis.
Hearn already ranks seventh in school history with 150 career three-point field goals made. She needs two more triples to move up to sixth in that category at Memphis.
Her 54 triples is already in Memphis' single season top 10. She just missed a single season school record last year, knocking down 69 threes (record is 70).
