Dedric Lawson Earns Second Straight Rookie of Week Award

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - University of Memphis freshman Dedric Lawson has been named the American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Week, announced by the American Athletic Conference office on Monday afternoon.
Lawson averaged a double-double for the week with 12 points and 10 rebounds per game. He pulled down an even 10 rebounds in each of his two games during the week and scored 16 points against Ohio State, hitting 7-of-17 shots from the field. Over the two games he added seven assists, five blocked shots, and three steals over the two games.
Also being named to the American Athletic Conference Honor Roll was senior Shaq Goodwin.Â
He averaged a double-double for the week with 15.5 points and 11.0 rebounds per game. His 19 rebounds against UT Arlington are the second-most in a single game in American Athletic Conference history (behind his own total of 23 against Temple from last season). On Friday, he tied his career-high with 23 points in a neutral site win over Ohio State, including the 1,000th of his career in the first half. Over the two games he made 42.1 percent of his shots (8-of-19) from the field and 15-of-17 (.882) from the charity stripe and also added four steals and two blocked shots.
The Tigers return to action on Tuesday, December 1 when the team hosts the UT Arlington Bulldogs in an 8 p.m. tip-off at FedExForum.
