Hearn Named To All-Conference Preseason Team
Oct 26, 2015 | Women's Basketball
Second-straight preseason honor for the Tigers senior.
ORLANDO, Fla. – University of Memphis senior Ariel Hearn has been named to the 2015-16 preseason All-American Athletic Conference second team, the league office announced Monday at its annual media day. The Tigers were picked to finish seventh in the conference's preseason poll.
The preseason all-conference teams and poll were voted on by the league's head coaches.
For Hearn, it was the second-straight year that she was a preseason all-league selection. Last season, she was an All-American Athletic Conference first team pick.
Hearn, a two-time All-American Athletic Conference honoree (first team in 2013-14; second team in 2014-15), enters her senior campaign having already scored close to 1,500 points for her career. She has 1,495 points and is in the No. 12 spot on the Tigers all-time scoring chart. On her pace of 498 points per season, Hearn could come close to reaching the 2,000-point milestone. If she does reach that plateau, Hearn would become only the eighth player in program history to do so and the first since 1999 (Tamika Whitmore).
The Memphis, Tenn., native was the 23rd player to join the Tigers 1,000-point club. She netted her 1,000th point the fifth-fastest of any player in the program's history, reaching the milestone in 64 games.
Hearn also is close to entering the top-10 on the program's all-time assists chart. She has 319 career assists and needs only seven more to move into the top-10.
Last season, Hearn led the Tigers in scoring (16.1 ppg), minutes played (34.0 mpg), assists (101 total, 3.3 apg) and steals (58 total; 1.9 spg). She finished the 2014-15 ranked among American Athletic Conference statistical leaders in minutes played (4th), scoring (5th), assists (6th) and steals (4th).
Memphis was picked to place seventh in the coaches' preseason poll. The Tigers were picked sixth in the two previous league preseason polls (2013-14, 2014-15).
