Oct 21, 2015 | Football
Recognition comes after setting a career high for catches against Ole Miss
The John Mackey Award has named Alan Cross of Memphis as the John Mackey Tight End of the Week. Cross was recognized with the honor on Wednesday.
The senior from Millington caught a career-high six passes for 41 yards including a tip-toe, one-yard touchdown reception just across the goal line to spark the Tigers' 31-point scoring onslaught as the team came back from a 14-0 deficit.
Cross' late, first-quarter touchdown reception was the second of the season and 13th of Cross' career as he added to his already set school record for touchdown receptions by a tight end.
Honorable mentions for this week's John Mackey Tight End of the Week include J.P. Holtz of Pittsburgh and Austin Hooper of Stanford.
The 2015 John Mackey recipient will be announced on Dec. 9 and then presented live on Dec. 10 at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show on ESPNU.
Other key dates include the announcement of the 2015 Mackey Semi-finalists on Nov. 16 and the 2015 Mackey Finalists on Nov. 24.
All future announcements can be found at www.johnmackeyaward.com, on the award's official Twitter

The John Mackey Tight End of the Week is an honor distinct and different from the annual John Mackey Award. This weekly honor was started in 2004 to draw attention to individual play by Tight Ends during the active season.
The Tight End of the Week acknowledgment does not have a direct bearing on the final John Mackey Award selection process. The John Mackey Tight End of the Week honor will run until the announcement of the eight Semi-Finalists.
The John Mackey Award is a member of the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA) which encompasses the most prestigious awards in college football. The 22 awards boast over 700 years of tradition-selection excellence.
The Friends of John Mackey is responsible for the administration of the John Mackey Award and the John Mackey Award Selection Committee.
