BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-The University of Memphis men's and women's track and field team returned to action at the UAB Vulcan Invitational this weekend claiming a plethora of top-10 finishes.
In field events, Martine Bye took first place in the women's high jump with a leap of (1.68m, 5'6.0"). For the men's team, Devynn Brandon claimed fifth (1.90m). In the men's long jump, Luis Hanssler (6.99m) notched fourth place for the Tigers.
For the women, Carolina Carmichael (4.05m, 13'3.5"), Sabrina Hochreuther (4.05m, 13'3.5") and Dorina Baiker (3.80m, 12'5.5") took first, second and third in the pole vault event.
For the lady Tigers, Chardae Greenlee (12.85m, 42'2") claimed first place and currently holds the record for the sixth best triple jump in the nation. Teammate Chiamaka Okparaebo followed close behind with a second place finish and leap of 12.58m, 41'3.25".
The Tigers recorded four top-10 finishes in the shot put. Luke Vaughn (16.61m, 54'6"), Yannik Schaly (16.35m, 53'7.75"), Matt Sipe (14.74m, 48'4.5") and Wade Wells (14.09m, 46'2.75") placed first, third, sixth and 10th, respectively.
In the weight throw, Matt Sipe (16.47m) and Luke Vaughn (16.38m) placed sixth and seventh, claiming two top-10 finishes.
Moving to track events, Luis Hanssler (22.43) finished 11th respectively in the 200m for the Tigers. Antaun Andrews (50.06) recorded a top-10 finish in the 400m taking eighth, with teammates Aaron Persinger (50.50), LaQuintin Garner (50.78) and Chris Walker (50.83) taking 11th, 15th and 16th respectively.
In the mile run, Fabian Fiege placed third in a time of 4:16.53 and Drew Austell finished seventh in 4:24.13 giving the Tigers another top 10 record. Lauren Wheeler claimed eighth for the women's team in the mile run.
Destinee Lansden (57.55) had a top-10 finish in the women's 400m dash taking eighth place.
The women's team also recorded three top-10 finishes in the women's 800m run. Maya Williamson (2:11.20), Martina Rodriguez-Sala (2:11.72) and Rebeka Holt (2:16.69) placed first, second and ninth respectively.
Corentin Louis took seventh in the 3,000m crossing the line at 8:45.27. Fellow distance runners Jacob Ryan (8:55.83), Austin Carter (9:04.90), Brandon Keys (9:05.67) and James Durkin (9:23.15) took 11th, 14th, 15th and 18th in the 3,000m.
Aaron Persinger (8.27), Tyrell Forde (8.36) and Aaron Willett (8.47) claimed three top-10 finishes in the 60m hurdles placing fourth, sixth and seventh, respectively.
The women's team took third (3:50.74) and the men's team took fifth (3:20.03) in the 4x400m relay.
