Memphis Men's Golf Finishes Fifth at Shoal Creek

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The University of Memphis men's golf team finished in fifth place on Tuesday at the Graeme McDowell Shoal Creek Invitational hosted by UAB in Birmingham, Ala. The Tigers shot an 879 (287-291-301) overall and 15-over par.
Cory Gaylord led the Tigers with a 1-under (73-72-76) to finish, tied for seventh and earned his first top-ten finish of the year. The overall score of 215 was the best finish for the senior and the first-round 69 was his lowest round of the season.
Sophomore Lars Van Meijel, last season's Shoal Creek Invitational medalist, posted a 77 in Tuesday's round to finish the tournament at +6. The sophomore's first round of 72 notched his best total this year and the 222 was his best 54-hole total.
Sophomore Kevin Lee shot a final-round 76 to finish +6 for the event. The Galatin, Tenn., native fired a 73-73-76 to finish tied for 22nd at the prestigious tournament.
Thomas Perrot went even on the final day of the event. The native Frenchman notched an eagle on 14 and birdied 17 to shoot 2-under on the back-nine. Overall the junior fired a +7 (76-75-72).
Sophomore Eithel McGowen turned in a final round of 77 after finishing even on the back-nine. McGowen finished +17 for the tournament and his first round of 73 tied his second-best round of the year.
