ITA All-American Prequalifying
Men's Tennis Run Comes to End in Pre-Qualifier
Sep 28, 2014 | Men's Tennis

Memphis freshmen men’s tennis players Ryan Peniston and Andrew Watson had their respective ITA All-American singles runs come to an end, Sunday, as each lost his third round singles match.
Peniston won his opening set, 6-1, but Georgia Tech’s Eduardo Segura won a highly-contested second set 7-5, then closed out the win, 6-2.
Later in the morning, teammate Andrew Watson took to the courts for a match against No. 17 seeded Jonathan Ho of Wake Forest. Ho took the match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, to advance to the fourth round of the draw. Ho went on to win that fourth round match and became one of the 16 qualifiers from the 256-player draw to advance to the Qualifying Rounds. Both Watson and sophomore Louis Asser were beaten in the pre-qualifier by players who advanced to the Qualifying Draw.
The qualifying draw of the ITA All-Americans continues on Monday. The qualifying draw also has a doubles portion of the tournament, leading up to the ITA Main Draw. Memphis senior Connor Glennon will begin his ITA All-American singles run in the Main Draw, Thursday.
The Tigers’ next fall event will be the ITA Ohio Valley Regional. This year’s event is being hosted in Nashville, Tenn., by Vanderbilt University, Oct. 17-20th.
