  Series Notes

With tonight’s win, Memphis improved its series record to a perfect 3-0 vs. Indiana State.
Before tonight’s meeting, the last time the Tigers and Sycamores faced each other was the 1981-82 season. Memphis won that encounter 101-89 at the Mid-South Coliseum in the Bluff City.
The win also improved the Tigers’ record vs. Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) foes to 32-33. This season, Memphis is 1-1 vs. the MVC. Earlier this season, the Tigers fell to No. 11 Wichita State 71-56 in Sioux Falls, S.D.

  Team Notes

With tonight’s win, Memphis avoided a 1-3 record to start a season. The last time the Tigers began a season 1-3 was the 2000-01 campaign, John Calipari’s first as head coach at Memphis. In fact, Memphis began that season with a 4-8 record.
With tonight’s victory, Memphis avoided back-to-back losses. The last time the Tigers suffered consecutive losses was near the start of the 2012-13 season – 70 games ago (losses were to VCU and Minnesota in Battle 4 Atlantis).
After tonight’s win, Memphis is now 2-3 in games played in Las Vegas.
Tonight’s game was a bracketed contest/third-place game of the 2014 Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational. Memphis now has a 102-67 all-time record in regular-season tournaments/classics.

Avery Woodson was named to the 2014 Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Five Tigers netted double figures in Friday’s win, the most for a single game this season to date.
Shaq Goodwin returned to the starting lineup and scored a season-high 19 points Friday. He had come off the bench in the Tigers’ previous two games.
With his 19 points, Shaq Goodwin now had 698 career points and needs 302 to reach the 1,000-point milestone.
Shaq Goodwin tied a career high with nine FT made vs. Indiana State.  
Shaq Goodwin grabbed a season-best eight rebounds vs. the Sycamores.
Shaq Goodwin’s eight-rebound performance was the 45th game of his career in which he grabbed five or more rebounds.
Trahson Burrell netted a season-high 15 points.
Avery Woodson scored a season-best 12 points. He also hit a season-high four three-pointers (4-of-4 3P) vs. Indiana State.
Sophomore Austin Nichols started his 37th-straight game Thursday.
Sophomore Kuran Iverson did not dress out for a fourth-straight game due to a concussion.

Memphis returns home Tuesday, Dec. 2 to host Stephen F. Austin at 6 p.m. (CT) at FedExForum. The game begins a nine-game homestand for the Tigers that will last from Dec. 2-Jan. 3.
Tuesday’s game vs. Stephen F. Austin is the Tigers’ final contest in the 2014 Continental Tire Las Vegas Invitational. It is Memphis’ second non-bracketed game in the event.
