Tigers Take Two Decathlon Podium Finishes at the C-USA Outdoor Championship

HOUSTON, Texas- Three Tigers found the podium in multi-event competition on day two of the Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championship, Friday. Luis Hanssler and Tuure Hollo took silver and bronze respectively in the men's decathlon, while Xenia Rahn set a new program-record in the women's heptathlon taking silver.
Hanssler took second in the decathlon tallying 7,163 points scoring eight overall team points for the Memphis men. Hanssler took second in the 100m (11.11), first in the long jump (7.48m, 24'6.5"), sixth in the shot put (11.24m, 36'10.5"), tied for fifth in the high jump (1.87m, 6'1.5"), took first in the 400m (49.40), third in the 110m hurdles (14.89), fifth in the discus (35.23m, 115'7"), tied for third in the pole vault (4.40m, 14'5.25"), placed fourth in the javelin (46.92m, 153'11") and sixth in the 1,500m (4:50.81).
Hollo took third in the decathlon with a final score of 7,110 points, recording six overall team points for the men's squad. . Hollo took seventh in the 100m (11.69), fourth in the long jump (6.89m, 22'7.25"), third in the shot put (12.78m, 41'11.25"), set a new personal-best in the high jump taking third (1.96m, 6'5"), placed eighth in the 400m (53.01), fifth in the 110m hurdles (15.32), first in the discus (41.83m, 137'3"), second in the pole vault (4.50m, 14'9") and third in the javelin (51.78m, 169'10").
Rahn set a new program-record in the women's heptathlon with her second place finish of 5, 463 points. Rahn broke her own school-record in the event of 5,047 points set in her gold medal performance at the 2012 C-USA Outdoor Championship.
Rahn took first in the shot put (12.42m, 40'9"), tied for second in the high jump (1.72m, 5-7.75"), placed 10th in the 200m (26.78), set a new personal-best in the 100m hurdles taking second with a time of 14.26, placed second in the long jump (5.83m, 19'1.5"), third in the javelin (40.37m, 132'5"), and eighth in the 800m (2:25.43). Rahn picked-up eight overall team points for the women's squad, while teammate Laura Toldy added another team point with her eighth place finish in the event.
In other events from day two, the men's squad scored 10 team points in the hammer throw. Andrew Miller scored six points with his bronze medal performance of 56.50m (185'4"). Matt Sipe tallied three more points taking sixth with a throw of 51.37m (168'6") while Tom Willcox added one more point with his eighth place finish of 49.58 (162'8"). In the women's hammer throw, Britta Jaarats scored one team point for the women with her eighth place throw of 51.02m (167'5").
The men scored two more team points on the day when Dan Kuhman took seventh in the 10,000m with a time of 31:14.64. On the women's side of the 10,000m, Alisha Fitch placed 13th in a time of 38:16.42.
The men's team sits in second place overall with 26 points after two days of competition, with the women's squad tied for fifth with 10 points. Action at the C-USA Outdoor Track and Field Championship resumes at 4 p.m. (CT) on Saturday. Results from the meet will be posted on GoTigersGo.com as they are made available.
