WEST POINT, Miss. – The University of Memphis women’s golf team wrapped up play at the Old Waverly Bulldog Invitational on Wednesday, and they posted a 308 in the final round. The Lady Tigers finished the tournament with a stroke total of 933 and a 10th place finish out of 11 teams. Julia Hodgson led the Lady Tigers in the final round, shooting a two-over 74. Hodgson was also the Lady Tigers’ top finisher, placing 27th with a tournament total of 228. Hodgson got off to a slow start as she bogeyed two of her first four holes, but she turned things around when she got to the front nine. The senior carded five straight pars before birdying the sixth. She then recorded pars on the final three holes to shoot a one-under 35 on the front. Hodgson carded a 39 on the back nine to end with her second 74 of the tournament. She placed 27th after shooting a 228 (74-80-74). Ashleigh Whisenant was the Lady Tigers’ next finisher as she carded a four-over 76. Whisenant started her day with a bogey on 18, and shot an 41 on the front nine before closing with a good eight hole stretch. She recorded six pars while birdying the 13th and 15th holes to post a one-under 35 on the back nine. Whisenant posted scores of 78-82-76 for a total of 236, placing her 38th Ashley Kees and Sarah Mathews were the next two Lady Tiger finishers as they both shot 79’s on the final day of the Old Waverly Bulldog Classic. Kees carded a one-over 37 on the front nine and a 42 on the back nine while Mathews shot 39-40. Kees finished the tournament with a 42nd place finish after shooting 81-77-79 (237) while Mathews finished 45th with scores of 80-79-79 (238). Natalie Turk rounded out the squad as she posted 90 on the final day. She finished 52nd with a total of 247 (76-81-90). Shelby Sain played as an individual and placed 54th after shooting 81-85-84, for a total of 250. Kentucky won the event with a three day total of 878 while Tulane finished second at 880. Tulane’s Gemma Dryburgh was the medalist as she posted three rounds under par to finish with a total of 208 to win the event by two strokes.
Memphis will be in action again on September 21-23 when they travel to Nashville to play in the Mason Rudolph Championship. The tournament will be hosted by Vanderbilt on the North course at the Vanderbilt Legends Club.
