No. 43 Memphis Finishes Fifth in Louisiana Classics

RUSTON, La. -The University of Memphis golf team posted a 299 (+11) in the final round of the Louisiana Classics to finish in fifth position. Jack Belote (-3) and Grant Milner (-2) both placed in the top-10 individually.
The Tigers were third heading into Tuesday's final round after posting rounds of 284 (-4) and 283 (-5) on day one at Oakbourne Country Club. SMU, which was one stroke behind Memphis starting the day, posted a 292 (+4) team score in the final round to pass the Tigers, and Tulsa fired a final round 287 (-1) to tie the Mustangs for second.
First round leader LSU, which had a five shot lead starting the day, continued its strong play with a final round team score of 285 (-3) to win the team title by 14 shots.
Jonathan Fly, who was tied with Milner to start the day, carded a 74 (+2) in the final round en route to a 218 tournament total and a tied for 24th finish. Steve Lee (74-70-79--223) and Alex Hoffman (79-76-77--232) finished in ties for 53rd and 82nd, respectively.
Andrew Presely (68-68-70--206) and Sang Yi (71-67-71--209) finished first and second individually while leading LSU to the team championship. Phillipp Fendt (73-68-69--210) of tournament-host Louisiana-Lafayette finished third.
The Tigers now have 10 days off before heading west to Tuscon, Ariz. for the National Invitational Tournament at Tuscon National Golf Club.
