IRVING, Texas - University of Memphis' Tarik Black picked up his second Conference USA postseason award in as many days when he was named to C-USA's All-Defensive Team Tuesday. Black was selected to the All-C-USA second team on Monday.
Black is the fourth Tiger to earn C-USA All-Defensive Team distinction. Former Tigers Antonio Anderson (2007, 2008, 2009), Joey Dorsey (2007, 2008) and Robert Dozier (2009) also earned C-USA All-Defensive Team honors.
Black is second on the team in scoring (10.7 ppg) and rebounding (4.8 rpg) and leads the squad and Conference USA in field goal percentage at 68.2 percent. He currently holds the Tigers' single-season record for field goal percentage, besting the previous mark of 64.7 percent set by Joey Dorsey in 2007-08.
The 6-foot-8 forward leads Memphis with 47 blocked shots and is ranked sixth in C-USA in that statistical category. Black played his best basketball of the season down the stretch, averaging 15.6 points and shooting 77.8 percent from the field in the Tigers' last six contests. Among those last six games was a career-high 26-point performance versus UTEP Feb. 18.
The Memphis, Tenn., native had five games in C-USA play with two or more blocks. His two double-doubles and three double-digit rebounding games this year came against Conference USA opponents. Black blocked a career-best seven shots in the Tigers' Dec. 29 victory over Robert Morris.
Last season, Black was named to the C-USA All-Freshman Team.
