WAHIAWA, O'ahu - The University of Memphis women's golf team turned in the best round of the season with a 300 in the second round of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational. The Lady Tigers shot 307 in the first round and are in sixth place. Alex Aläng was tied for the lead after carding a 71 in the first round and is in 2nd place with a two round total of 145.
Aläng started the first round with a one-over 37 on the back nine after a birdie on the par-five 15th hole. Following a birdie and a bogey early on the front nine, Aläng ended the round with a bang. She posted an eagle, two, on her final hole of the round, the par-four eighth hole. The senior ended with a two-under 34 on the front to post a one-under 71. Aläng ended her second round with back-to-back birdies to card a two-over 74.
Julia Hodgson also improved her first round 79 with an even par 72 in the second round. Sarah Mathews played a pair of consistent rounds, shooting a pair of 78's. Mathews posted a one-over 37 on the front nine in the second round.
After shooting a 79 in the first round, Natalie Turk turned in a 76 in round two, and Ashley Kees carded an 80 in the first round, and followed with a 83 to round out the Lady Tigers' squad.
Florida International and Toledo are tied for the lead at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational with totals of 595. Washington State's Kristen Rue holds the individual lead after shooting 71-73 for a total of 144.
The third round at Leilehua Golf Course starts tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. local time, 1:00 p.m. (CT) with a shotgun start. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.com.
