KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Playing in her second tournament of the fall, Alex Aläng seems to be in midseason form as she posted her second straight 73 at the Mercedes Benz Championships. After two rounds, she is tied for 11th place while the University of Memphis women’s golf team posted a 312 in the second round.
Starting the day on the back nine, Aläng posted a birdie on the par three 11th before a bogey on 16 gave her an even par 36 on the back nine. She struggled early on the front nine, but came in with a pair of great holes, posting birdies on the par three eighth and the par four ninth to end with a one-over 73. Paired with her 73 yesterday, Aläng is currently tied for 11th place with a tournament total of 146.
Shelby Sain followed Aläng as she posted a 77 in the second round. Sain got off to a slow start, but rebounded to card a 39 on the back nine and 38 on the front nine. Natalie Turk was next as she registered an 80, shooting identical 40’s on the front and back nine.
Sarah Mathews and Ashley Kees rounded out the Lady Tiger squad, carding an 82 and 83, respectively. Julia Gerlach is playing as an individual and posted an 81.
The Lady Tigers are currently in 15th place with a stroke total of 625. Penn State holds the lead after two rounds with a total of 580 strokes. Fuman’s Laura Wearn holds the individual lead with a stroke total of 138 after two rounds.
