TAMPA, Fla. - United Soccer Leagues (USL) announced the W-League Team of the Week on Wednesday, with University of Memphis sophomore midfielder/forward Christabel Oduro being named the league's Player of the Week.
"Anytime a player gets this kind of honor, it does a lot of good for their confidence," head coach Brooks Monaghan said. "We expect Christabel to come into camp with that confidence and contribute to this team. She has all the tools of a great player and we expect to get those contributions in the fall."
Playing for the Hamilton FC Rage, Oduro has four goals and an assist in seven games this season. Oduro provided both goals in a 2-1 win over Laval to take down the second place Comets and finished the week with three goals.
"Christabel is an explosive big game player with world class pace and technical ability to match," Hamilton Head Coach Joe Moscato said. "Her effectiveness as game changer stems from her always being cool, calm and collected in intense situations around the net. Christabel loves the game and is a big soccer fan, she wants the ball at her feet and isn't afraid to take any player on, truly first class and deserving of this honor."
In her freshman season at the University of Memphis, Oduro played in all 22 matches for the Lady Tigers and finished the season with three goals and four assists. The Brampton, Ontario, native scored the game-winner against Houston in the semifinals of the Conference USA Tournament that sent the U of M to a fourth-straight appearance in the C-USA Championship game.
