MURFREESBORO, Tenn.--Memphis women's tennis reached double-digit wins for the third consecutive season with a 5-2 decision over in-state foe Middle Tennessee on Sunday afternoon at the Buck Bouldin Tennis Center.
The Lady Tigers (10-6, 1-0 C-USA) have now won their last six dual matches this season and have taken three in a row against the Blue Raiders (5-7).
With Memphis netters Courtney Collins and Kelly Gray taking down Yuiri Nomoto and Lisa Maas 8-5 at No. 1 doubles and MTSU's Lexi Brand and Marietta Bigus taking the No. 2 position with an 8-6 win over Mariya Slupska and Kathleen Hawkins, the doubles point would be decided on court three.
The final doubles flight came down to the wire, but Andrea Arques-Garcia and partner Stefanie Mikesz came out on top 8-7 after a dominating 7-1 performance in the tiebreaker.
Memphis would clinch the match with straight-set wins at the No. 6 (Andrea Arques-Garcia def. Alex Dachosm 6-3, 6-0), No. 4 (Kelly Gray def. Lisa Maas, 6-1, 6-2) and No. 1 (Courtney Collins def. Yuiri Nomoto 6-0, 6-4) slots before MTSU would tally either of its two points in the dual.
The Lady Tigers return to the court on Saturday, March 26 against Saint Louis back in the Bluff City in a non-conference dual scheduled for 9 a.m. CT on the University of Memphis Tennis Courts.
