Memphis Signs Texas Product Sam Watson

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – University of Memphis head coach Brooks Monaghan announced Tuesday that Flower Mound High School defender Sam Watson has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Lady Tigers. Watson is the fifth of 13 signees for the 2011-12 signing class.
“Sam is a player that we expect to come in and make an immediate impact,” Monaghan said. “She is a player that we recruited as a center back. She has great size, is very athletic and is not afraid to get stuck in on the tackle. She is just an all-around very good soccer player. She is very mature and she is someone we think can be a great leader for us down the road. She has a ton of potential and she is only going to make us that much better in the back.”
Watson, a Dallas, Texas native, led Flower Mound High to the Regional Semi-Finals in 2008. On the club level, Watson competed for FC Dallas and was the team captain under the guidance of coach Chris Ring.
Watson is the daughter of Tim and Sandy Watson.

Notes: A L’lle-Bizard, Quebec, Canada, native, Kylie Davis was named the 2010 Quebec Female Player of the year. Davis helped the Renegades claim medals in 2007-10 play, including gold medal honors in the Provincial Championships in 2009. On the club level, Davis played for coach Rudy Doliscat and the Lac-St-Louis Lakers. Played in the FIFA U17 Women's World Cup in September of 2010 which was held in Trinidad and Tobago Davis helped the U17 Canadian National Team claim the CONCACAF Championship in 2010. Earned seven Alberta Provincial Championships with the Sherwood Park Rangers (U12-U16). With the Edmonton Victoria Soccer Club, earned Major League Provincial Championship in 2010. Also earned the silver medal in the Women's Major League National Championship in 2010. Four-year member of the Canada Soccer Association National Training Centre-Praries (2007-11).
