Severe Weather Halts Tigers Efforts at Mississippi Open

Oxford, Miss. – Due to severe weather in the area of the Ole Miss Track and Field Complex on Saturday, the Mississippi Open was cancelled after the completion of five events.
The Tigers traveled to Oxford, Miss., to compete in what would have been the final meet before the Conference USA Outdoor Championships. Memphis will shift its’ focus to the C-USA Championships which are slated to begin on Thurs., May 13, in Orlando, Fla.
Seniors Karmyn Clark and Angela Wigley collected top-10 finishes for Memphis in the women’s hammer throw. Clark finished fourth in the competition with a season-best mark of 49.55m (162-07). Wigley posted an eighth-place finish with a throw of 46.84m (153-08).
Freshman Alyssa Northcutt finished 11th in the javelin throw with a throw of 33.78m (110-10). Junior Desiree’ Blow improved her season-best mark in the javelin throw with a mark of 24.67m (80-11) and finished 16th.
The lone men’s event that was completed before the rain came was the men’s 5,000m run. Junior distance runner Jacob Chapman finished eighth with a 16:12.13.
