MEMPHIS POSTGAME NOTES
Game Nine - vs. Tennessee - November 6, 2010 - Memphis, Tenn.
TEAM GAME NOTES
• Captains for today's game were RB Gregory Ray, LB Winston Bowens, DB Torenzo Quinn.
• Tennessee Governor-Elect Bill Haslam participated in the pre-game coin toss.
OFFENSIVE NOTES
• Senior Kindly Jacques made his first career start in the offensive line. He started at right tackle for Tommy Walker.
• The Tigers got on the board first today with a four-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Williams to Marcus Rucker. The two later connected for another touchdown in the fourth quarter. It was Rucker's fifth and sixth TD catches of the season; his seventh and eighth of his career. Williams has tossed nine touchdown passes as a true freshman for the Tigers this season.
• This is the first game this season that Memphis has scored first in the game on a touchdown. Memphis has gotten on the board first twice this season (vs Houston and UTEP) on field goals by Paulo Henriques.
• Jeremy Longstreet came in at running back in the second quarter and picked up nine yards on his first career carry. Longstreet moved from linebacker to running back during the week of practice prior to the Southern Miss game. Longstreet finished the game with 26 yards on eight carries. He also had three receptions for 40 yards to finish with 66 all-purpose yards.
• Marcus Rucker caught his second touchdown reception in the game on a 38 yard pass from Ryan Williams with 1:26 left in the fourth quarter. It is the second time this season he has caught two touchdowns in a game with the other coming against Southern Miss. Rucker now has six touchdown receptions this year and eight in his career.
• Ryan Williams had his third multi-touchdown game of the season with two touchdown passes. He completed 18-of-27 passes for 221 yards, marking his third game finishing over 200 yards passing. He now has nine touchdown passes on the year.
• Marcus Rucker extended his receiving streak to nine games with a team best five receptions for 76 yards in tonight's game. The five receptions matches a career best and the 76 yards is his second highest receiving total of the year. He has led the team in receiving yards in the last three games.
• Curtis Johnson also extended his receiving streak to nine games with a five yard reception in the third quarter.
• Gregory Ray led the team in rushing with 60 yards on 14 attempts. He averaged 4.3 yards per carry and had a long run of 20 yards. Ray led the team with 94 all-purpose yards and had three receptions for 34 yards.
DEFENSIVE NOTES
• Several Tiger defenders made their first starts of the season in tonight's game. Winston Bowens started at linebacker for Jamon Hughes; Mitch Huelsing started at safety for Marcus Ball; and Lester Lawson started on the defensive line. It was Huelsing's first career start.
• Lester Lawson caused Tennessee to fumble the ball in the third quarter and DeRon Furr recovered the ball on the UT41. It was Furr's first fumble recovery and Lawson's second career forced fumble. Lawson's last forced fumble was in 2008.
• Senior safety Mitch Huelsing, who had his first career start today, registered a career-high 11 tackles with 10 solo stops and one tackle for loss. His previous high was three against Houston last weekend. The former walk-on came into the game with just eight total tackles. He was presented a scholarship in fall camp.
• Freshman Taurean Nixon had a career best two pass breakups in the game.
