Head Coach Larry Porter Quotes October 2, 2010
Opening Statement:
"Obviously we didn't give ourselves a chance early, this game was laced with turnovers. Even going into halftime, we were down by two touchdowns and I still thought that we had a chance if we came out and played hard. If we came out and played hard early I thought we had an opportunity to come out and put ourselves on the board, but obviously that didn't happen and I didn't think that we executed on offense or defense in the second half. With that being said we cannot put ourselves in position to sustain turnovers and win ball games, regardless of who we are playing and what part of the year we are in."
Q: Do you see this as a step backwards for your team considering last week's game versus UTEP?
A: "I just don't feel like we gave ourselves a chance. I thought early our defense continued to come out and play hard in the first half. Offensively we just couldn't get anything going and we were laced with turnovers and that takes away from your morale and the team as a whole. I don't think we are going backwards, we just need to put together a 60 minute game offensively, defensively as well as special teams."
Q: Do you see any positives from this game?
A: "There are some guys who played hard until the bitter end, and that's what I told the team. We have got to find 11 on both sides of the ball that will give us the effort for 60 minutes. That's when we will truly be making progress."
Q: On your adjustments at the half?
A: "We were trailing at the half, but I thought our defense played strong. The adjustments needed to be made on offense. I was disappointed the way we (the defense) played in the second half, but again we need to put ourselves in position to be a good football team."
Q: With the defense being on the field so long, do you think they were worn down?
A: "I don't think the defense was worn down. Judging by the way they (the defense) looked at the half, I would have thought they would have come out and played lights out, but this defense is used to being on the field and playing as long as they need to. But they came out and scored on the first two drives out of the half and I think that hurt us."
