Team Notes
- Memphis captains today were seniors Curtis Steele, Deante' Lamar, Will Hudgens and Matt Reagan.
- The Tigers scored 28 points in today's loss, tying the most points that Memphis has scored against Tennessee in the series' 22-games. It is also the most points scored by a Tennessee opponent this season. Auburn defeated the Vols 24-19 on Oct. 4, 2009.
Offensive Notes
- Duke Calhoun extended his receiving streak to 46 games with a 13-yard catch in the first quarter. Calhoun, who ranks third nationally with his 46-game active receiving streak, has caught a pass in each game he has played for the Tigers.
- Carlos Singleton caught a 5-yard pass from Will Hudgens in the first quarter to extend his receiving streak to 14 games, which is the second-longest on the team this season.
- True freshman Marcus Hightower scored on a 36-yard run with 58 seconds remaining in the second quarter for his first career rushing TD on his first rushing carry. Hightower finished with two carries for 42 yards.
- Curtis Steele scored on a one-yard run with 7:33 remaining in the third quarter, and again on a three-yard run with 3:53 remaining in the third. Steele now has seven rushing TDs this season, and 14 for his career. This is Steele's fourth career game of multiple rushing TDs. Steele leads the Tigers in scoring by a non kicker with 48 points.
- Duke Calhoun logged four receptions for 39 yards today and with his season total of 803 yards, he moves to fourth all-time in single season yards at the U of M.
- Curtis Steele rushed for 144 yards on 21 carries for his ninth career game over the century mark. It is his third 100-game this season. Steele is only the second back this season to rush for over 100 yards against Tennessee. The other was Ben Tate from Auburn who totaled 128 yards on 25 attempts. Steele is the only back to score two rushing TDs this season versus the Vols.
- Will Hudgens rushed one yard for a score with 11:36 remaining in the game, marking his fourth career rushing TD; the first of this season.
- The four touchdowns Memphis scored from the run mark the most rushing TDs for the Tigers since logging six versus Tulane in 2008.
- Redshirt freshman Curtis Johnson caught a career best and game high 28-yard reception from Will Hudgens late in the fourth quarter.
- Redshirt sophomore Cam Baker led the team with a career high five receptions for a career best 57 yards.
Defensive Notes
- Junior cornerback Bryan Wright made his first start in tonight's game, playing for D.A. Griffin, who injured his ankle versus ECU. Wright finished the game with a career best eight tackles and a pass breakup. He has had four pass breakups in the last four games.
- Junior linebacker Jamon Hughes made his first start tonight for the Tigers at linebacker for Jeremy Longstreet. Hughes has started two career games when he played the 2006 and 2007 games at Mississippi State. Hughes led the team with a career high 14 tackles with a pass breakup in tonight's game.
- Senior defensive end Josh Weaver sacked Jonathan Crompton for a loss of four yards in the second quarter. It was Weaver's third sack of the season, which ties him for the team lead in sacks with Mike McDonald.
- Sophomore Lavaris Edwards intercepted Tennessee quarterback Nick Stephens at the Memphis four-yard line in the fourth quarter for his first career pick.
Special Team Notes
- Matt Reagan was four of four on PATs in tonight's game and takes sole possession of No. 2 in school history for PATs made. Reagan now has 114 career made PATs and surpassed Joe Allison, who totaled 110 PATs made from 1990-93. Reagan, a native of Knoxville,Tenn., is also second all-time in PATs attempted with 120, and is now third in scoring by a kicker with 249 points. He surpassed Ryan White who totaled 248 points from 1998-2001.
- True freshman Marcus Hightower had a career high in kick returns and kick return yards. He totaled five returns for 80 yards with a game long return of 30 yards.
