Elliot Williams scored a career-high 21 points for the Tigers against Kansas. The sophomore guard has put forth his two best scoring efforts in his career in his first two games with the Tigers. Williams scored 19 points in his Memphis debut against Jackson State. His previous high was 15 against Maryland, while playing for Duke in the ACC Tournament last season.
The Tigers fall to 0-9 all-time against opponents ranked No. 1 in the country. However, Tuesday's loss is the closest margin by which a Memphis team has lost to a top-ranked team. Their previous bests came in 2005 against Duke and in 1995 against UMass. Memphis lost both game by a three-point margin
Tuesday's loss is also the closest the Tigers have come to defeating a Kansas team. The Tigers lost by three points to the Jayhawks in an overtime affair in January of 1986. Memphis' only other meeting with Kansas came in the National Championship game in 2008. The Tigers lost by seven in overtime to the Jayhawks.
Memphis falls to 37-22 all-time against Big 12 opponents with Tuesday's loss.
