Memphis vs. Jackson State

With the win, Memphis improves to 53-13 all-time when its season opener is also its home opener. The Tigers are 10-1 in their last 11 season/home opener combinations.
Memphis head coaches are now 13-4 in their first game directing the Tiger program. Josh Pastner becomes the first Memphis head coach since Tic Price to win his first regular season game as the head man. Price's Tigers defeated Louisiana-Monroe, 75-74 in 1997.
In his first game in the Blue and Gray, Elliot Williams surpassed his past career high of 15 points against Maryland, while playing for Duke last season, with his 19 point performance on Friday night against Jackson State. The Jackson State game served as Williams' first regular season game as a Tiger.
Wesley Witherspoon also surpassed his career-high with 13 points. His past career-high was 10 points against Houston on March 13, 2009.
Since World War II, The U of M is now a perfect 5-0 when playing on Friday the 13th.
Junior College transfer Will Coleman secured a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds in his first regular season game at the U of M. Coleman also blocked five Jackson State shots in his 21 minutes on the court.
Roburt Sallie set career highs in assists and steals against Jackson State with four. His previous high for assists was three against Missouri in the Sweet Sixteen. His previous high for steals also came against Missouri with three.
