When Joey Dorsey has that kind of presence around the basket, we are really, really good. We have been trying to figure out ways to get him going. He was tremendous. The biggest thing is that he would shoot the ball, miss it, and then go rebound it; which he just hadn't done in three or four weeks. I thought Robert Dozier made strides. We went at them (UAB) and we went at them inside. We said fight the guy off, battle the guy. I'm happy for Andre. I'm happy for Joey.
Joey said that it was a highlight film that you showed him that got him going. Any plans to break it out again?
We did a highlight film for both him and Robert. Robert Dozier's highlight film is a lot of last years NCAA tournament play, and some other games this year where he was just ridiculous. You could see a different look on his face, a different quickness to the ball and we just put it to music and said look at it once a day, twice a day. We did the same with Joey. Joey's big thing before is I said write the story, script it. It's your dream, how do you want this to finish. What do you want senior night to be?
UAB Coach - Mike Davis
That was a team that was satisfied with second place in the conference. We weren't prepared to face a team that had a chip on its shoulder. We thought everything was going to be easy. It never seemed like we had this game. It was like everything was pulling toward next week with the conference tournament. We couldn't execute anything. We shouldn't have even scored what we did score. Memphis was aggressive when they came out. They were focused, and we played right into their hands.
All the talk was we were in second place and how we needed to win one game in the conference tournament next week. It was like this game didn't even matter, and that was the way we played. It was senior night for Memphis, and it was a stop before Thursday. Because the whole conversation was we were going to be in second no matter what we do. We're going to play on Thursday night and meet the 7 or 10 (seed). You can blame it on me because I should have sat guys down. We could've got beat by 40 by anybody. We just weren't ready to play. I told them last night that we were going to play really well or very bad. Our minds were totally on next week.
