Memphis Finishes Seventh At Conference Tournament

TEXARKANA, Ark. - The University of Memphis men's golf team concluded the final round of the Conference USA Championships Tuesday in Texarkana, Ark., finishing seventh after falling from second to sixth in the first two rounds.
Memphis tied for seventh at the conference tournament, shooting a 15-over-par 303 in the final round. The Tigers tied with UTEP in the tournament with a 27-over-par 891. Memphis finished with two golfers in the Top-20.
Ian Rochester was the leader for the Tigers. The junior finished in the Top-10 after tying for sixth. He accomplished his goal of improving his 29th place finish from last year. Rochester shot a 2-over-par 74 in the final round and tallied two birdies. The Cordova, Tenn., native, shot a 1-over-par 217, tallied seven birdies and 39 pars in tournament play.
Sophomore Brad Benjamin was the second Tiger golfer to finish in the Top-20. Benjamin tied for 16th, after shooting a 5-over-par 77 in the final round. This finish gives Benjamin his second Top-20 finish in a Conference USA tournament. The Rockford, Ill., native had three birdies on the day. He finished with a 6-over-par 222 along with two eagles and eight birdies.
Next in line for the Tigers was junior golfer Kyle Ritchie. The Corning, Iowa, native competed in his first Conference USA tournament and finished 35th after shooting a 6-over-par 78 on the day. He tallied one eagle on the 17th hole and one birdie in the final round. Ritchie shot a 10-over-par 226 in the tournament, finishing with eight birdies and one eagle.
Freshman golfer Brandon Bunn tied for 42nd in his first Conference USA tournament. Bunn shot a 4-over-par 76 in the final round, his best performance of the tournament. Along with a 76, the freshman tallied two birdies. The Knoxville, Tenn., native finished the tournament with a 14-over-par 230, six birdies and one eagle.
Robbie Greenwell finished the tournament in 45th place, after shooting a 4-over-par 76 in the final round. The junior had two birdies on the day. Greenwell finished the tournament with a 15-over-par 231, tallied three birdies and 35 pars.
Tulsa University took the 2007 Conference USA Championship title, shooting a 3-under-par 285 on the day and a 9-under-par 855 in the tournament. UAB finished second with Southern Mississippi in third. In individual competition, Garrett Osborn from UAB took the crown, shooting a 2-under-par 70 in the final round. He finished with a 4-under-par 212.
Memphis will conclude their spring season May 13-14, when they travel to Greensboro, Ga., to compete in the Linger Longer Invitational. The tournament is hosted by Mercer University.
