Tigers Conclude Final Round of Pinehurst Challenge

Pinehurst, N.C. - The Lady Tigers concluded the final round of the Pinehurst Challenge Tournament in Pinehurst, N.C. Tuesday, earning a 12th place finish. Senior golfer Stacey Tate led the Tigers, gaining a top-20 finish in the tournament. Memphis started out the second and final round in ninth place.
Tate put on a solid performance to improve from 33rd in the first round to a 19th place finish in the tournament. The Auckland, New Zealand native reported a 12-over-par score of 156, earning an 80 in round one and a 76 in round two. She finished with her sixth top-20 finish of the year and her 20th of her Memphis career. Along with a top-20 finish, Tate finished on the leader board for par 4 scoring with a 4.25 (+5) average.
Junior Dawn-Marie Conaty reported a 17-over-par 161, earning her a tie for 41st place. Conaty shot an 80 in the first round and an 81 in the final round. Junior golfer Meghan Mahoney wasn't far behind, finishing just one stroke behind Conaty. Mahoney shot a 162, with an 82 in the first round and an 80 in the final round. Putting on a solid performance, the Nantucket, Mass. native tied for 45th and was one of two golfers in the tournament to shoot an eagle, putting her on the leader board.
Rachel Larson, the sophomore from Longmont, Colo., finished the tournament tied for 64th place. Larson shot a 21-over-par 165, shooting a 79 in the first round and an 86 in the final round. Senior Kathryn O'Rourke reported a 30-over-par score of 174, giving her a tie for 83rd place. O'Rourke shot an 86 in the first round and an 88 in the final round.
Memphis finished in 12th place, reporting a 68-over-par score of 644. The Tigers led the way in eagles with one, coming from Mahoney. They finished with 11 birdies and 94 pars. The Lady Tigers reported an average of 3.55 (+22) on par three scoring, a 4.53 (+53) average on par four scoring and a 5.57 (+23) average on par five scoring.
East Carolina took the victory at the Pinehurst Challenge, reporting a 37-over-par score of 613. With a second place finish was North Carolina State with a 37-over-par score of 613. The Pirates and the Wolfpack tied for first but based on the fifth player's scorecards on each team, ECU was granted the victory. College of Charleston finished third, shooting a 43-over-par score of 619.
Lene Krog of East Carolina and Sara Wilkstrom of Arkansas-Little Rock took home the individual medals. Both shot a 5-over-par 149, with a 75 in the first round and a 74 in the second round. Right behind them was UNC-Wilmington's Emily Klein, reporting a 7-over-par score of 151.
Memphis will continue action at the LSU/Cleveland Golf Classic in Baton Rouge, La. The tournament will take place March 16-18.
