ST. LOUIS, Mo. - University of Memphis' Chris Douglas-Roberts has been named to the United States Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) All-District 4 team, the organization announced on Tuesday. Tiger head coach John Calipari has been selected as the USBWA District 4 Coach of the Year.
It is the third postseason honor for Douglas-Roberts as he also earned All-Conference USA first team and National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District 7 first team distinction. It is the second-straight year that Calipari has earned a Coach of the Year accolade, as he took home the Conference USA Coach of the Year honor in 2005-06.
Douglas-Roberts leads the Tigers in scoring with a 15.4 scoring average and ranks sixth in Conference USA in scoring. A two-time C-USA Player of the Week recipient, the Detroit, Mich., native has had seven 20-point performances this season. He is shooting 54.1 percent from the field (sixth in C-USA) and 72.7 percent from the free throw line. He netted a career-high 28 points in a win over Austin Peay earlier this year, and had the game-winning basket at Gonzaga Feb. 17 and the game-clinching free throws at SMU Mar. 3.
Calipari has guided Memphis to a 27-3 overall record and a No. 5 ranking in both national polls. The Memphis head coach directed the Tigers to a perfect 16-0 Conference USA regular season record, marking only the second time that has been accomplished in the 12-year history of the league. Memphis won its second-straight outright C-USA regular season title, and the back-to-back outright crowns are the first in the program's history.
The Moon, Pa., native also earned NABC District 7 Coach of the Year honors in 2004. During his previous college coaching stint at UMass, Calipari was the 1996 Naismith and Sporting News National Coach of the Year.
Joining Douglas-Roberts on the USBWA All-District 4 team were: Tennessee's Chris Lofton, Florida's Corey Brewer, Vanderbilt's Derrick Byars, Alabama's Richard Hendrix, Florida's Al Horford, Kentucky's Randolph Morris, Florida's Joakim Noah, Florida State's Al Thornton and Louisville's Terrence Williams. Lofton was named the USBWA District 4 Player of the Year.
