"We got off to a good start. I think any time you make some shots early it gives you some confidence, and I think we had some confidence early and got the lead. Then, I thought we got quick. Now, some of those shots early were quick, but they were going down. Then you look at how the complexion turns, and we did not finish on a good note in the first half. We were trying to keep it within seven or eight points once they took the lead, then all of the sudden they go up 13. At that point, you come out in the second half and want to cut that in half, and it totally went the other way on us."
"We had some cold spells tonight, and you can't have cold spells against a team of this caliber because it is a lot easier to start a fast break when the ball is not going through the net. The other thing is I thought we got a little careless tonight with 19 turnovers. You just can't give them opportunities, and a lot of those opportunities were up top and led to quick baskets."
Memphis Head Coach John Calipari
"There were good things. (This is) typically what we're going to face this year. Teams are going to come out playing for their lives, and they're going to take shots and some of them they are going to make. They came out and made three or four unbelievable shots in a row, and all of a sudden they're up. That's going to happen to us this year. What bothered me is again I thought we got pushed around a little bit. For us to be something special, that can't happen."
"We put in some guys when I made the first substitution; the thing went the wrong way. I can't have that. If everyone wants to play, when they step on the court their game has to be played at a higher pace than the guys that were in there before. It wasn't that way. It's hard because -- the guys who have been watching practice -- how many times do we really work on zone. They played three things of man and we scored on all three I think. So we're playing against zone. Tomorrow, we're going to play against all zone again. And I'll be honest with you, we may be playing against zone all season. Which means they close their eyes and hope we don't make threes because if we make threes the offense gets some force. If we're making them like Doneal Mack did and Willie Kemp did, all of a sudden it's hard. And then Chris Douglas-Roberts making the shots he did from the perimeter really opened things up."
"(Shawn) Taggart did okay. I thought he did some things in the second half; three rebounds in a row and making some free throws and other things. He just has to be tougher. You saw without Joey (Dorsey) out there, we didn't have that presence; that physical toughness that we normally have."
