MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Memphis men's soccer team (5-2-3) returned from a double overtime tie at Conferenece USA rival Tulsa on Friday to host the number 10 team in the nation on the back end of another Friday-Sunday double header. The Tigers could manage to net only one goal, despite several good looks in the second period, and fell to Creighton, 3-1.

Trailing 3-0 at the break, the Tigers returned to the pitch a new team. After surrendering three unanswered scores in the first 45 minutes, Memphis manufactured five corner kicks and fired 13 shots at Creighton's Matt Allen. Ryan Rule and Tripp Harkins each had good looks in the second period, but neither was able to finish the scoring opportunity.

"Sometimes when you play good teams, it exposes you," said head coach Richie Grant. "Credit to Creighton. They came out in the first half and took it to us."

Kevin Walsh found the back of the net with just over 10 minutes left in the game on a rocket from the top of the box that shot past a sprawling Matt Allen.

"We came out (in the second half) and were much more aggressive, much more creative, and got rewarded with one goal for that," Grant said. "I was pleased with the way the lads responded and bounced back from such a poor first half.

The Tigers have a week to prepare before hitting a long stretch of C-USA matches. Memphis will host Kentucky on Saturday, and then travel to Marshall for a mid-week showdown before returning home to host South Carolina.

"The advantage of playing a tough schedule is that it prepares you for teams like Kentucky coming next week," Grant said.
