The University of Memphis volleyball team improved to 7-0 with a sweep of Lipscomb in the early match, but was unable to keep its record flawless after falling to Southeast Missouri State 3-0 in the nightcap.
Shelby Burton slammed 16 kills and hit .682, while Sarah Bury added 15 kills as the Tigers raced to a sweep of the Bisons. Laura Côté handed out a match-high 43 assists for Memphis, who hit .321 in the contest. The Tiger defense was paced by a 19-kill performance from Christen Clayton. Bury added 10 digs to round out her double-double. Memphis held Lipscomb to just a .035 attack percentage, including a -.067 percentage in game two and a .051 clip in the opening set.

The nightcap was not so kind to the Tigers as a lethargic performance resulted in the team's first loss of the year. Bury led Memphis with a career-high 17 kills and Ashley Liford put away 10 balls. Côté finished the night with a match-best 37 assists, but the Tigers could only manage a .172 hitting percentage after hitting .000 in the first frame.
Clayton had 12 digs to lead a Memphis defense that gave a .324 average--its highest opponent attack percentage this season.
The Tigers now look to get back on the winning track with a pair of contests tomorrow. Memphis will host Arkansas-Little Rock at 2 p.m., followed by a meeting with Louisiana Tech in the tournament's final match at 7 p.m.
