Memphis Basketball Team Holds Annual Awards Banquet Monday Night

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The 2005-06 season has been a total team effort, and that was reflected at Monday night's University of Memphis men's basketball annual awards banquet. Each of the 15 players took home at least one honor from the night's festivities.
Senior Rodney Carney was the lone double winner as he received the team's Leading Scorer and Most Valuable Player awards. Darius Washington Jr., earned the squad's Playmaker Award, while Shawne Williams received the Newcomer Award and Antonio Anderson was selected the Defensive Player of the Year.
The Leading Rebounder Award went to Joey Dorsey, and Kareem Cooper received the Most Improved Player honor.
The Tigers (27-3), ranked No. 5 in both national polls, return to action Thursday, Mar. 9 when they open play in the Conference USA Championship presented by Aeropostale. Memphis received a first round bye and will meet the Tulane-Marshall winner at 6:00 p.m. (CT) on Thursday. Tulane and Marshall face off in a 6:00 p.m. (CT) first round game Wednesday.
Memphis clinched the 2005-06 Conference USA regular season championship with its victory over Houston Mar. 4, and the trophy was on display at the banquet.

Best Teammate Award - Clyde Wade

Sportsmanship Award - Chris Douglas-Roberts
Sixth Man Award - Robert Dozier
Most Improved Player Award - Kareem Cooper
Newcomer Award - Shawne Williams
Leading Rebounder Award - Joey Dorsey
Defensive Player of the Year - Antonio Anderson
