Head Coach John Calipari's general comments...
I really like the balance we had today. We played nine guys for a lot of minutes and they all performed. There is a star born in every one of these games, and today it was Andre Allen. We had nine guys in double figures (in minutes) and there were a lot of guys doing good things. There was definitely excitement out there, a lot of scoring.
Calipari on sophomore guard Andre Allen...
This is a kid who has great confidence in his ability and is a tough-nosed player. He is a mentally tough kid. In the state finals [Allen's senior year], his team was down by ten points. Andre had four steals, about twelve points, and won the game. We hoped he could do that for us and he did that today.
Senior forward Rodney Carney on being more aggressive this game...
That's something he (head coach Calipari) wants me to do all the time. I really took a point to do that. I took open threes that I thought were open, and tried to drive to the hole, be very strong and try to get fouled. When I drive to the hole, I help the team.
Freshmen guard Antonio Anderson on the first half run...
It all sparked off when they made a little run on us. And, we had the little time out and they tied the game up and took the lead, and Andre came out and hit three threes, and I hit a three. That picked up our intensity and got us all excited, so we just ran off on that.
Freshmen forward Shawne Williams on the first half run...
It started out defensively in my opinion. `Dre (Andre Allen) got a couple of steals, Antonio got steals. It led to fast-break points and then that got the intensity up. `Dre made a couple of shots, Antonio made a couple of shots, and there goes a run. I was cheering my butt off on the bench.
