Memphis was unable to solve the Troy offense as the Trojans pounded out 21 hits in an 18-11 Tiger loss Sunday afternoon. Troy posted at least 21 hits in all three weekend contests and scored a combined 55 runs.
The series finale saw the Trojans lead throughout after a two-run home run by Edgar Ramirez gave them a 3-0 first-inning lead.
Memphis answered back with two runs in the home half of the first on a two-runs single by Bill Moss.
The one-run deficit would be as close as the Tigers would get for the remainder of the afternoon. Two Memphis errors helped TU plate four runs in the fourth for a 7-2 lead. The cushion was expanded in the fifth after a one-out home run by Blake Green was followed by a two-run double from Tom King. King equaled his Sun Belt record with nine-straight hits over the last two contests.
Trojans first baseman Clint Robinson homered to lead off the sixth innings to put the Trojans ahead 8-2. Three U of M errors gave way to a pair of unearned runs for Troy for a 13-2 advantage. Memphis committed a season-high six miscues in the loss.
Adam Amar's two-run blast over the centerfield wall highlighted a three-run sixth inning for Memphis to close the gap to 13-5. But Troy responded with a four-run seventh.
The Tigers mounted a strong rally in the eighth to pull to within six runs at 17-11. Memphis produced six hits in the six-run frame, including five-straight. K.K. Chalmers first home run of the season, along with Trey Wiedman's first collegiate hit, highlighted the rally.
Troy starter Mike Felix picked up his second win of the year after giving up five runs on seven hits in five-and-two-thirds innings of work. U of M southpaw Neil Schenk took the loss in a five-strikeout performance.
Memphis, which finished with 15 hits, was led by Wiedman, Robbie Goss, Amar and Michael Murray, who had two hits each.
The Tigers will now prepare to hit the road for a matchup with Murray State on Tues., Mar. 14. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
