Memphis Head Coach John Calipari
"That was a good win. At times, I thought we were tremendous, and there were other times, `Could we do this bad?' We are still trying to find ourselves. There were times today offensively when you were like `Wow.' That is what we are trying to do. Then, there are times when you are like, `Why are we trying to make the hardest play?'"
"We had turnovers today that were really basically unforced turnovers; not that they weren't playing great defense. It's that we tried to make the hardest possible play we could make, and we turned balls over that way. But, it's a heck of a win. If you said to me prior to the season, at this time you will be 7-2 with three games in a week's time, I would have done back flips and said I will wake up on that date. Wake me up on Saturday. Obviously, we could have been 9-0, but to be 7-2, we will take that."
"We're not where we want to be yet. This team has a lot of growing to do. We have two sophomores, a freshman and a junior and a couple more freshman coming off the bench and playing. So, we have a ways to go, and I told everybody prior to the year, with the talent we had last year, in that Tennessee game a few days ago, we would have come out okay. Somebody would have just made plays. We know we don't have that kind of team. We just have to figure out how we play and what we do. We still have a good team."
Ole Miss Head Coach Andy Kennedy
"As I have said before, we have to be better defensively. In the second half, they (Memphis) stopped thinking and started attacking, which is what they do, and they do it really well. As a result, we did not respond, and they really started taking the action at us. They got much higher percentage shots, and as a result, their percentage went up. We continued to have empty trips. We have done that every game this year. Against teams that we are superior to, we have opportunities to correct that and get back in a workable margin. Against quality teams, you can't have those lulls and dig holes that you can't get out of. We have played two top-20 teams, and we have done that to both, and the results have been the same."
"I did not come to Ole Miss for moral victories. I did not come to Ole Miss to say, `Boy, your kids played hard.' We came here to win, and we came into this game with the expectation of winning. Is that an unrealistic expectation? It doesn't really matter to me, other than what the guys in that room behind me think. I'm just really disappointed because we are counting on a few guys, and if we don't respond better, then quite frankly we have no chance against quality opponents, especially on the road."
