Memphis Head Coach John Calipari
"We have to give Manhattan credit for hanging around and playing how they had to play. We took our foot off the peddle a little bit. We backed up and played man. What I'm telling my team is that that is no reason to stop scrambling. They beat us on the dribble eight-straight times. We would either foul them or they would score. We can't run that way. I told them that whoever gets beat on the dribble is coming out. Then we stopped them six-straight times."
"There are some things we need to get better at. We got the ball right where we wanted it in the zone. We had some good looks. Confidence is about competence. Confidence is also about your effort level. You are never going to build your own confidence if you're not going as hard as you can. No one else can build you up. We have three games in seven days. We don't have much time."
Manhattan Head Coach Barry Rohrssen
"Memphis is a very impressive team. There is a reason they are ranked No. 14 in the country. They are very well coached by Coach Calipari and his staff and are very balanced. They had five players in double figures today and had 17 assists on 28 baskets. They were moving the ball around a lot and are a difficult team to face because of their pressure and athleticism. It is a team that can hurt you in many ways and can wear you down during the course of the game."
"We knew it would be a challenge, and we had too many turnovers. Memphis has forced their opponents to an average of 20 turnovers per game, which is a very large number, and we ended up with 26 turnovers. Memphis probably had around 33 points off our turnovers, and that is an area critical to us in this game and we need to take better care of the basketball and be more poised. We have so many freshman on our team (seven players), and they are still trying to find themselves and get together as a unit."
